Copper foil tape has several important roles in transformers:
Electromagnetic shielding
- Transformer work will produce electromagnetic field, copper foil tape because of good conductivity, can be generated by the transformer electromagnetic field guide to the ground terminal, thus reducing the electromagnetic interference to the surrounding electronic components and circuits.
- At the same time, it can also block the outside electromagnetic wave into the transformer inside, to protect the internal circuit and components from interference, which is particularly important in the electromagnetic compatibility requirements of high equipment.
Static electricity protection
- Transformers may generate static electricity during production, transportation and use. The conductive properties of copper foil tape can make static electricity quickly conduct to the grounded end, prevent static electricity accumulation and discharge, and avoid damage to the internal electronic components of the transformer.
Circuit connection
- In some small or high-frequency transformers, which cannot be connected by conventional wires due to space constraints or special circuit design requirements, copper foil tape can be used to connect the windings or components of the transformer to realize circuit conduction.
Insulation protection - Copper foil tape can make the electric field distribution inside the transformer more uniform, reduce the unevenness of the electric field strength, and reduce the risk of insulation breakdown. At the same time, it can prevent the internal electric field leakage and guarantee the stability of the internal electric field environment of the transformer.
- It can conduct the static electricity generated in the working process of the transformer in time, avoiding the damage to the insulation material caused by static electricity accumulation and discharge, and also reducing the static induction caused by the external electric field.
- From the physical level, copper foil tape can increase the creepage distance, prevent the current from creeping along the surface of the insulating material and short-circuit or leakage faults, and also prevent dust, oil and other foreign matter from contacting the key insulating parts.
- In synergy with other insulating materials, copper foil tape can enhance the overall insulation strength and form a multi-layer insulating structure, as well as buffer the mechanical stress and reduce the damage to insulating materials.
Fixing and reinforcement
- The windings and components inside the transformer need to be fixed. Copper foil tape has a certain degree of adhesion and strength, which can be used to fix the windings, core and other components of the transformer, and enhance the structural stability of the transformer.
